Pink T Shirt Day Society Anti-Bullying Campaign
February 22, 2017 is Pink T-Shirt Day! 
In 2007, two Nova Scotia students decided to take action after witnessing a younger student being bullied for wearing a pink shirt to school. The students bought 50 pink t-shirts and encouraged schoolmates to wear them and send a powerful message of solidarity to the bully.


Bullying is a major problem in our schools, workplaces, homes, and over the Internet. Each year, on Pink T-Shirt Day, we encourage all of you to wear something pink to symbolize that we as a society will not tolerate bullying anywhere. It is important that victims of bullying know they are not alone and there is help and support available. Wearing a pink shirt sends a strong message to them that others care. 

Often, the simple act of wearing a shirt can start conversations - conversations can be a big step towards healing and helping!

There are events all year that will be highlighted but the first event is in the city of Surrey on February 21st 2017. Join Mayor Linda Hepner as Surrey officially launches its City-wide Canada 150 Program. Come and show off your Canadian pride by wearing red and white at City Hall Plaza from 11-1 pm. Highlights for the Surrey Celebrates Canada 150 Launch include:
  • Kwantlen Glee Club
  • First Nations Hoop Dancing
  • Canadian Cover Band
  • Canadian inspired food trucks Crepes & Melttown (Poutine) on the plaza for all to enjoy!

Coldest Night of the Year Walk is is a fun, family-friendly fundraiser that raises money for the hungry, homeless, and hurting across Canada. It happens on the last Saturday in February to raise awareness and funds for local charities addressing homelessness in their communities. They pick that day because it happens to be Canada's coldest day of the year, on average. Rain, Snow, or whatever the weather brings us on that day, we walk. Perhaps, in a little way, we come to appreciate the challenges of many who walk this weather regularly. 

The White Rock walk is hosted by Sources Community Resources Society. They are very close to raising their goal of $70,000. You can help them get all the way there by donating or walking with a team.

Bundle up and accomplish something remarkable by joining in on the fun this Saturday February 25th!
